This Dystopia SUCKS

Artist Statement: My idea for the project "This Dystopia Sucks" was around the topic of The Handmaids Tale. I chose this because I saw it as the perfect representation of a dystopian story line. I specifically focused on the character June Osborne, the main character, who constantly rebels against the dystopian society. I chose to use her voice as a platform to activate the ideas around why this society needs to be taken down. Quite similarly in the book and TV show, June shows actions of rebellion and never loses her morals and values in Gilead. In my project, she portrayed these ideas through my images. I chose to do all my gifs with quotes so that it would stand out more and create more loudness towards the idea. I enjoyed using the glitch processing, specifically using photoshop to create a "fake glitch". Most of my images were done in photoshop and that it because I Was really enjoying the way the colors were coming together. A lot of my images had red in them, so the multiple layering colors in photoshop was working nicely together. Something I would work on in the future is getting more texture in these glitch images in photoshop. I know there are effects and filters and I tried to use some of them but I would love to learn and explore more. Another thing I want to improve is glitching overall. I wasn't very happy with a lot of my glitches using textedit and processing which was frustrating, but many of them simply had no change at all or the whole screen would change color. My favorite part of my project was the gifs. I had so much fun adding so many different layers and colors and playing around with the combinations of each. I think those came out really nicely. Overall I had a great time learning how to make glitches and I think it can continue to be a learning process and making art to hang up around my house!
