Reading Blog #3

Net Art is a term that quickly spread to the public and was defined as a type of communication through the use of graphics, text messages, emails, and images that were being sent online by all types of artists. I found it really interesting that although Americans have taken over the technological world, Europe and Russia were big players in the creation of this form of art. The internet for Eastern Europeans was labeled as a "Utopian Halo". People had easy access to explore the internet as well as the opportunity to learn how to use it along with all the softwares. At this point in time the internet had no correlation or representation of the terms "asceticism" or "Neo-conceptualism". Rather, the internet was a place to to share stories, hobbies, and to advertise or promote any type of companies. I think it was really interesting to read about the origins and different aspects of the internet because it has changed so much. I also appreciate that at one point in time the internet was fascinating and new, and not something that is so normalized and almost a toxic thing in our current times. It made me almost envious of not getting the experience of such a new thing and being so motivated to learn about it. Growing up as a kid in my generation we were growing up alongside technology; we were still on the butt end of it and still got the almost technology free lifestyle, but it was still there as we grew up and became more prevalent. Overall I enjoyed reading about the history of internet art and how it has changed or remained the same.
