Reading Blog #2

I found this article very interesting as it is about John Cage's piece called "4'33". I enjoyed when they were describing were the original piece took place. It took place in an area of woods called Maverick. It is a peaceful and very nature oriented place and was described well enough to give good imagery of the setting. I think this piece is intriguing because of the controversy around it. There are many who appreciate the silence of the piece while there are many who dislike it and find it to be "ridiculous". I think Cage's approach to his piece is not only unique but it was a turning point for the music industry. His work is very free and makes the audience not feel trapped or forced to listen to notes and instruments. I think Cage's passion for silence holds so much power when he performs and has a lot of ambiguity to let your mind decide the music that you hear.
