Final Artist Statement #4

My idea for this project was the concept of dreams. I was interested in this theme because dreams are a large aspect of our subconscious minds and I find them fascinating. Although I have already researched dreams and been quite invested in them, this project furthered my curiosity and allowed me to strengthen my knowledge on dreams and interpret them through art.

I began this project by creating four different faces, each one with the intent of creating an expression of how dreams personally make me feel afterwards. The first face represents a nightmare and more specifically sleep paralysis, as she is wide eyed and looks frozen. The second face is supposed to display a lucid dream, which is why this face is more interesting to look at and has a lot more imaginative features. The third face is a daydream, it has yellow colors to represent the imagination and she is wearing some sort of magical hat. The last face is a prophetic dream and this face has three eyes with one on the forehead to represent intuition and spirituality.

For the other parts of the project I made many gifs and photoshop images that I really enjoyed making. Although I may have struggled with them in the beginning, once I got the hang of it I really got in a groove. I enjoyed making the photoshop images a lot - I think it challenges me to get out of my comfort zone and not draw for every piece. These images brought a different approach and vibe to my previous work, but I think I was able to tie it back to my style. I found this project very interesting and I enjoyed that I was able to challenge myself and be happy with the outcome, especially because it was different from work that I have done in the past with different mediums and techniques.
