Brainstorm Blog 1

My ideas for this zine come from the prompt I received in Studio Art. We were given two prompts to choose from: how I got here and/or my experiences from last year. For this class I’m doing my experiences from last year. It is very personal and vulnerable but what I love about art is that you can tell a story through visual images and symbolism. Some of my ideas I am hoping to include are: you never know what is going on behind the scenes of someone's life, the loss of loved ones, inspirational quotes I read during hard times, and a tattoo I got that represents those times. So, my zine is going to be this narrative of experiences I went through last year and the emotions that were brought to the surface or buried during those moments. I like to work a lot with color, specifically vibrant colors, but also to use color as a way of expressing emotions. I like to relate colors to feelings in the way I interpret them, like green and purple represent anxiety or blue is sadness and bright colors are any emotion in between. Basically my concept is that all our experiences pass, nothing is permanent and the hardships you go through aren’t going to be hard forever. I got a tattoo that says “tutto passa” which is Italian for everything passes. It reminds me everyday that whatever I’m feeling, anxious, sad or embarrassed, that it will pass at some point. No emotion or experience is with us forever and I hope my zine can represent a difficult year that has been somewhat overcome.
